Before watching these videos I have never heard of Carol
Dweck and the growth mindset. I think it is obvious that the more you work on something
the better you will become. Just like the expression, ‘practice makes perfect’.
When I was in gymnastics in order for me to achieve a skill perfectly I had to continuously
practice and do drills even if I face planted or failed over and over again. I
really liked the second video’s message making challenges the new comfort zone.
I think everyone can agree that failing can be embarrassing. Carol’s thoughts
on affirmation made me realize kids are shaped to feel good about getting the
right answer rather than seeing their progress throughout the learning curve. I
am hoping that I can encourage myself this semester to not get too upset when I
don’t do well on something.
Growth mindset meme
I like this inspirational meme. It is so true. I envy your time spent in gymnastics. I always wanted to join, but despite my efforts I am simply not meant to be flexible or play the guitar (but that's another story). We all learn what we like and what we are good at by trying. I am currently studying for the LSAT and it is definitely teaching me that if at first I don't succeed try again!
ReplyDeleteHello again, Court!
ReplyDeleteI have chosen to do the growth mindset a lot throughout this class- I think it's a really interesting concept and I like the message that it tries to explain to people. I think it's important that people know that they are meant to grow and learn and not be perfect all the time.
Your meme is so funny. Cats are goofy.
Hi Courtney,
ReplyDeleteI like your determination in the class. It's always good to learn how to not get too upset when something doesn't go as planned, like failing a test. You just have to keep trying no matter how hard it may seem!
